I am part of a community that I belong to, which helps me learn effectively. The instructors here are very hands-on with their students, they are open to give and take feedback, and they always respond quickly.

Removing barriers for Indigenous students

When you first walk into our Wetaskiwin campus, you might notice the sign that reads “Tatawâw.” This is a Cree word that means you are welcome, there is room for everyone.

We are committed to creating a safe place of learning, growth, and inclusion for all students while addressing some of the common barriers many Indigenous students experience, such as:

  • Waiving application fees and tuition deposits for Indigenous students
  • Having an onsite Elder available for one-on-one counselling, ceremonies, and cultural guidance
  • Creating a dedicated, on-campus smudging area for students to use at any time during operational hours

I feel more supported here than in other schools I have been to. I also like the connection I have with the Elder here on campus since I met with her a few times, and she supported me culturally and emotionally.
