1st Term: May 14, 2024 - May 13, 2024
Law (Lawrence) Andrews is Cree-Métis from East Prairie Métis Settlement residing in Edmonton, Alberta. Law started his education in Graphic Design in 2008 with NAIT’s Aboriginal Multi-Media Arts program. This course offered a stop-motion project that earned the class “Best Student Production” at the 2009 Alberta Film and Television Awards.
After gaining his certificate in multi-media, Law found employment with his hometown’s local newspaper: South Peace News (SPN). Law regularly updated the SPN website and enjoyed his time creating advertisements for local businesses. After 3 years of employment, he decided to continue his education and enrolled at Edmonton Digital Arts College (formally Guru College) for his diploma in Digital Media Production.
In 2014, Law moved back to East Prairie Metis Settlement to provide support for his niece and 2 nephews. This was in the country and employment options were low. Eventually the family moved back to Edmonton, but support was still required for the 3 children all under the age of 12. When the youngest turned 12, Law decided it was time to upgrade his education. After some deliberation, Law thought the best option for his return to college was with NorQuest College.
NorQuest College has been a great experience for Law, and he says its “a great opportunity to gain a worldview without leaving Edmonton”. He enjoys the great diversity that comes with being a student at NorQuest and looks forward to all the possibilities that comes with his commitment to the Pride Committee, NQ Indigenous Arts Council, SANQC Students’ Council and as the Appointed Self-Identified Indigenous Student Representative of the Board of Governors at NorQuest College.
