This is a requirement under the Public Sector Compensation Transparency Act applicable to post-secondary institutions. The act requires the annual disclosure of name, position, compensation, other non-monetary benefits and severance for employees when total calendar year earnings plus severance exceeds the threshold. Non-monetary benefits include employer paid benefits for supplemental health, dental, employee/family assistance program, long-term disability, workers compensation, pension, supplemental retirement pension; and, in some cases a supplemental reserve fund is also identified. Non-monetary benefits also include the employer's portion of Canada Pension Plan (CPP) and Employment Insurance (EI) contributions.
The legislation ensures that disclosure under the Public Sector Compensation Transparency Act is permitted by the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP).
Exemptions from disclosure are permitted if it could unduly threaten the employee’s safety. The deadline for all disclosures is November 1 of the year preceding disclosure.
Full details on who can apply for an exemption and the application process can be found on the Government of Alberta's Ministry of Justice and Solicitor General website.
This information will be publicly available for five years from the date of disclosure.
For inquiries about the compensation disclosure, including exemption requests, please contact Milly Sywanyk, Director of People & Talent Operations at employeeservices@norquest.ca.
