New Canadians celebrated at NorQuest
June 29, 2022Judge Gurcharan Singh Bhatia has been a friend and supporter of NorQuest College for over 20 years. Since arriving in Canada in 1964, Judge Bhatia has embraced many NorQuest values through tireless work in strengthening this nation’s multicultural community. But more than that, he has been a remarkable advocate for the power of education in the lives of students.
Judge Bhatia further cemented his friendship with NorQuest students in a ceremony on June 29 to celebrate NorQuest’s Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) learners who have made a real difference in their time at NorQuest. The gracious Judge Bhatia Citizenship Awards, awarded annually at NorQuest, give a boost to LINC students and celebrate their accomplishments as new Canadian citizens.
“When we connect to partners like Judge Bhatia, we make incredible things happen for our community,” said Carolyn Campbell, President and CEO, NorQuest College. “Judge Bhatia’s support of truly impactful opportunities for NorQuest learners through initiatives like Daughter’s Day, the Civil Society Speaker Series, and of course, the Judge Bhatia Citizenship Awards for hard working and hopeful new Canadian students, are timeless reminders of his vision.”
Judge Bhatia is the first-ever recipient of a NorQuest College honorary diploma, and his passion towards the college instills pride among NorQuest students, faculty, and staff. His dedicated work to build a more just and equal society and engage younger generations in democracy is truly inspirational.
Congratulations to NorQuest’s incredible LINC student recipients and, of course, to Judge Bhatia for his outstanding support of NorQuest over the years.
