NorQuest College is being recognized as one of Canada's Top 50 Research Colleges, by Research Info Source Inc. Each year the research, consulting, and publishing firm releases its list highlighting the top research universities, colleges, and hospitals across Canada.
After many years of dedication and hard work by the college’s research community, NorQuest has earned a spot on the elite list. The college is ranked 25th on the list of 50 colleges, made the top 10 for paid student researchers, and took the top spot in the research income growth category, after seeing a 166.5 per cent increase from 2021.
“This is very exciting news for the college,” says Patti Hergott the Dean of Research & Academic Innovation. “Our teams, faculty leads, and entire research community are incredibly talented, and I’m thrilled they’re receiving this recognition.”
NorQuest’s array of research projects is diverse and has a great impact on the wider community. Some of the many projects underway focus on increasing equity, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace, creating economic opportunities, filling the gaps in the seniors’ care market, and empowering newcomers to succeed through improved tools and training.
Researchers at NorQuest are key in driving Edmonton’s innovation ecosystem and work with businesses, and industries to identify complex problems and develop creative solutions. The college’s applied research capacity has seen substantial growth in the past decade. Starting from a value of 350-thousand dollars in 2015, NorQuest applied research has grown to more than 5.1 million dollars at the end of 2022. Students and faculty have proven themselves as key community and industry resources that are now being leveraged by governments and industry leaders across the province.
In addition to being ranked in the top half of the overall list, NorQuest has placed in the top ten for partnerships. It is also being celebrated for the value of research, per researcher and ranked in the top 20 in completed projects.
