Research and Innovation Showcase 2025: A celebration of ideas and impact
March 11, 2025

NorQuest College’s commitment to research and innovation took centre stage on February 28, 2025, as the Innovation Studio buzzed with excitement during the Research and Innovation Showcase 2025. Sponsored by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), the annual event provides a platform for students and staff to share their research, inspire collaboration, and celebrate the power of innovation.
The showcase featured 35 research posters out of which 10 posters were presented by students. The posters covered a wide range of topics that impact society today. Some projects explored emerging technologies, such as data-driven classification for smarter vehicle sales, while others tackled critical social issues, including mental health, international student experiences, and decolonization. This mix of research not only showcased innovative problem-solving; it also underscored how research at the college is driving meaningful change.
Beyond presenting research, students played an integral role in the showcase. Those in the Print and Design program, as part of the Correctional Education portfolio, applied their skills to professionally print the posters, gaining valuable hands-on experience while contributing to the event’s success.
A highlight of the event was the poster competition, where 81 attendees and participants cast their votes for their favourite research projects. In the staff category, ACB Mental Health Awareness: Destigmatizing the Stigma of Mental Health by Manokore et al. (2025) took first place for its impactful approach to mental health advocacy within African, Caribbean, and Black communities. Meanwhile, the student category winner, Using Bibliotherapy with Children and Youth Who Have Experienced Trauma, by Jessica Hanson-Torwalt captivated audiences with its exploration of literature as a tool for healing.
To further highlight and share the importance of these research projects, all posters were displayed in the Learning Centre, giving the entire college community the opportunity to learn more about the innovative work being done at NorQuest College.
The Research and Innovation Showcase 2025 was more than just an event—it was a testament to the creativity, dedication, and impact of NorQuest’s research community. By continuing to foster curiosity and collaboration, the college strengthens its culture of innovation and discovery, encouraging students and staff to explore new ideas and drive meaningful change.
