JP Armstrong

As the Research Chair in Community-Based Research, JP’s goal is to conduct research that benefits the 2SLGBTQIA+ community both within and beyond NorQuest College. He believes that a high level of engagement increases the likelihood that research will have a significant, meaningful, and positive impact on communities. His past and current projects include research on blood donor policy; food security; substance use; sexual health needs; the wellbeing of post-secondary students; and anti-2SLGBTQIA+ hate.

JP holds a Master of Arts in Sociology from the University of Victoria and is currently completing a PhD in Sociology at York University (ABD). Before joining NorQuest College, he taught courses on the Sociology of Gender and Sexuality; Social Research Methods; and Community-Based Research with Sexual and Gender Diverse Populations at MacEwan University. Additionally, his work is informed by several years of leadership experience in Edmonton’s 2SLGBTQIA+ non-profit sector.

See how JP is shaping the future of community-based research at NorQuest.
