NorQuest College is committed to providing a safe environment for students, faculty, staff and visitors.

Emergency Response Policy

The NorQuest College Emergency Management Policy governs emergency management at the college, requiring the college to have plans, processes, and resources in place to protect individuals and property.

Emergency Response Plan

NorQuest maintains a detailed emergency response plan (ERP) to support timely and appropriate response to emergencies. The plan was developed utilizing current best practices in emergency management. The emergency response plan isn’t shared publicly for security reasons. If you would like to discuss the ERP contact, and we will gladly assist you.

Incident Command System

NorQuest College uses the incident command system (ICS) to prepare for and respond to emergency situations. The ICS system is an internationally standardized, flexible, on-scene, all-hazards approach that enables coordinated incident management among various jurisdictions and agencies.

Emergency Operation Centre

NorQuest College maintains an emergency operations centre (EOC) to manage serious incidents. Staff are trained in ICS/EOC operations in preparation for an emergency.

Site Emergency Coordinators and Emergency Wardens

NorQuest College trains designated site emergency coordinators, emergency wardens and security personnel to assist in managing an emergency.

In the event of an emergency, there are a number of ways notifications will be sent out. Check out the list below for details.

Mass Notification System (MNS)

NorQuest has a diverse range of building types and campuses and individuals move about freely from building to building and campus to campus. As such, there is no way to reach everyone with a single technology or system. With this in mind, the MNS has been designed with multiple layers of communication channels. Even with a layered approach, it will not be possible to guarantee that all members of the campus community are notified of an incident. If you receive notification of an emergency, share the information with those around you if you can.

The goal of the MNS is to provide alerts or warnings containing accurate information as quickly as possible to as many individuals as possible. The system will provide basic information to individuals. Upon receiving information, individuals should then take actions to protect themselves as officials respond to the safety issue or emergency. The system may not be activated if a notification would compromise efforts to assist a victim or respond to an emergency.

You may receive notifications via any or all of these methods:

  • personal notification (SMS/text messaging)
  • computer pop-ups
  • alert beacons
  • digital signage
  • email
  • verbally – You may receive notification by someone telling you of the emergency, or by hearing an announcement.

Personal Mass Notification

To help prepare and respond to emergency situations NorQuest College has invested in a personal notification system. The personal mass notification system will enable NorQuest to send notifications to subscribers if and when an emergency is taking place.

NorQuest College encourages all students, faculty and staff to take advantage of this system. Having the most up to date information in an emergency could make the difference in ensuring your personal safety.

Personal mass notification is an opt-in service – to ensure you are prepared to receive up-to-date information in an emergency situation subscribe to NorQuest’s personal mass notification service.
