Engineering Mechanics - Dynamics - ENGG 1302

This calculus-based course is intended for Engineering students and covers a range of Engineering Mechanics principles. It is an introduction to the kinematics and dynamics of particles. Topics include kinematics, dynamics, systems of particles, work and energy, linear momentum, rotational motion, angular momentum, gravitation, and an introduction to the dynamics of rigid bodies. Emphasis will be given to both the geometric aspects of these bodies in motion and the forces that cause this motion. Upon completing this course, students will be able to explain basic kinematics concepts - displacement, velocity, and acceleration (and their angular counterparts); basic dynamics concepts - force momentum, work, and energy. Students will be able also to apply Newton’s laws of motion and other basic dynamics concepts, such as the Work-Energy principle and Impulse-Momentum principle. Furthermore, students will determine which concepts to use, choose an appropriate solution strategy, and gain essential machine parts such as pulleys and mass-spring systems to solve dynamics problems.
