Program requirements for September 2025

Academic requirements

 Language Arts - this requirement can be met with any of the following, or an equivalent course: 

  • 60% in English 30-1, or 65% in English 30-2 

OR 

  • Successful completion of the General Education Development test (GED) with a standard score of 520 in Language Arts: Reading and Writing 6 Digital Design Diploma (Brokered) 

OR 

English language proficiency requirements

If English is not your first language, you must provide proof of English language proficiency before admission. These results must be no more than two years old when you start your program. 

Test scores we accept: 

  • IELTS Academic: 6.0; no section score below 6.0 
  • TOEFL iBT: 83; no section score below 21 
  • Cambridge English Language Assessment: 180; no section score below 165 
  • CAEL: 70; no section score below 70 
  • PTE Academic: 59-64; no section score below 56 
  • Duolingo: 110 

Or one of: 

  • successful completion of an Alberta Education English Language Arts course that is consistent with the specified academic admission requirements for the Career Program 
  • transcripts demonstrating successful completion of three (3) years of fulltime secondary education at a school where English was the language of instruction
  • transcripts demonstrating successful completion of one (1) year of full-time post-secondary education at a school where English was the language of instruction 

Practicum/work experience requirements

To enroll in DESN2998 - Digital Design Capstone Research and Planning in your second year, you must successfully complete all the required courses from your first year.

International students: You must get a co-op work permit before beginning the work-integrated learning component of the program. See Co-op work permit for more information.


Progression and graduation

Students must receive a minimum C grade in all year one courses to progress to year two of the program. Year two courses require a minimum D grade in all courses.  

The Academic Standing Policy and Procedure provide further details on the categories of academic standing, and the consequences and supports available if a student is not in good academic standing. A minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 1.30 in the program’s courses is required to qualify for graduation. 


Technology requirements

This program is technology-driven and requires a properly equipped computer and additional tech to meet the course requirements.

Students will need a laptop with the following specs:

  • Intel quad core CPU (i5 or i7)
  • 8GB RAM (16GB recommended)
  • 13-inch 1080p screen (15 inches recommended)
  • a dedicated graphics card with 2GB of VRam
  • a 128GB solid state hard drive (256GB recommended)

Additional technology:

  • a portable hard drive (for data backup)
  • Microsoft Windows 10
  • Additional course-specific software as required
  • A stable Internet connection.
