Created in partnership with Alberta-based insurance firms, NorQuest’s Insurance Professional program prepares students with fundamental knowledge, business training, and other essential skills necessary to succeed in the insurance industry.

What is Completion certificate

Ministry-approved teaching and learning activities that provide practical training for rapid entry into frontline jobs but do not culminate in a parchment/credential.

What to expect from the program

This program includes hands on learning. You’ll learn from keynote speakers, participate in fun and informative field trips, and have the chance to attend networking events. In addition, you’ll have access to industry experts, mentors, and hiring staff. Our instructors are passionate about students entering the insurance workforce and will share tips from their own learned experience.

Within the insurance industry, there is a wide range of career paths, including customer service, sales, administration, analytics, and more. NorQuest’s Insurance Professional program will provide immersive training in a variety of topics, giving you the skills you need to enter a dynamic industry.

Online real-time

As an online program with a flexible schedule, you can complete your courses while you continue working. 

Fast-track your career

NorQuest’s program is shorter than other post-secondary offerings and provides the skills for you to start immediately in the industry. Opportunities to network with experienced insurance professionals will provide direct access to careers in insurance.

Complement your insurance license

When you complete this program, you’ll gain 20 continuing education credits through the Alberta Insurance Council. This is incredibly important and valuable if you’re working towards—or planning to work towards—your insurance license.  

If you’ve already earned your insurance license, this program will provide you with additional skills to become a more well-rounded, confident, and skilled insurance professional.

For those without related experience

If you’re looking to enter an in-demand career opportunity with continuous growth potential, the insurance industry can provide the perfect space for you to explore different interests, meet your financial goals, and advance into new roles.

For business graduates

Graduates of business degrees or diplomas that don’t have a specific career path or have tried other roles that didn’t align with their goals may wish to explore a career in insurance. They can apply many of the same skills they acquired through their business education—such as reporting, management, communications, finance, and more.

For those with insurance experience

Students with insurance experience can gain the skills needed to be more successful in their roles, such as increasing sales and meeting targets. It will also help current professionals ladder into new job opportunities and give them the knowledge to better understand the industry.

What you’ll learn

This program is comprised of 5 courses.

Insurance Fundamentals

This 5-week course provides an overview of the Canadian insurance industry, covering its history, impact, career paths, licensing, and risk management principles.

Insurance Business Essentials

Explore the necessary skills and knowledge for success in the insurance industry during this 5-week course. Topics include sales, marketing, relationship management, networking, social media strategies, and business communication.

Workplace Skills for Insurance Professionals

This 5-week course focuses on essential workplace skills from an insurance industry perspective, including adaptability, resilience, empathy, and Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion awareness. 

Digital and Technical Skills for Insurance Professionals 

In this course, students will explore the future of the insurance industry, focusing on digital and technical skills crucial for success and the role of technology in enhancing the customer experience

Mentorship in the Insurance Industry (Capstone Project)

Students will have the opportunity to work with an experienced insurance professional. The course will feature two different mentorship opportunities and a final project to help students prepare for interviews and plan their careers in the industry.

Insurance Professionals often report strong starting salaries, flexible work styles—with many working from home or in hybrid environments—good benefits, and funding for professional development and continuous learning. As a large industry, there are many different roles and disciplines you can branch into as you continue to develop your professional career.

Once you enter the industry, you can choose to prep for your insurance license. Depending on your employer, you can seek support and potential funding to earn your insurance license. By becoming licensed and gaining work experience, you might move into management and senior level roles.
