What to expect from the program

Our Sustainability Coordinator program approaches sustainability as a mix of social, environmental, and economic factors that affect local and global communities.

The specialization focuses on teaching sustainability industry-specific reporting and disclosure skills, preparing you to meet the growing demand for reporting in response to new sustainability standards.

You will learn skills such as stakeholder engagement and communication, principles of change management and project management, data management and reporting and sustainability framework compliance, such as the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD).

NorQuest College believes in the importance of on-the-job experience that provides an enriched learning opportunity. 

The Sustainability Coordinator program offers two valuable opportunities to participate in work-based learning:

  • In second year, you will gain hands-on experience through an applied research project, collaborating with industry partners on real-world projects.
  • Between first and second year, you can choose to participate in an optional paid co-op module for additional relevant career experience and industry networking connections.

Career opportunities

Graduates of this program will be ready to contribute meaningfully to reaching organizational sustainability priorities. They will be well prepared to build careers in sustainability roles within corporate, government, and non-profit organizations, as well as consulting firms. The skills learned in this program can be applied to renewable energy, waste management, sustainable agriculture, supply chain management and more, in key sectors such oil and gas, real estate, the financial sector, health, agriculture and post-secondary institutions.

Graduates of the Sustainability Coordinator program can aim for the following types of roles:

  • Sustainability Coordinator: Managing and overseeing sustainability programs, ensuring they align with corporate or governmental sustainability goals.
  • Project Manager: Leading sustainability initiatives and projects across diverse sectors. 
  • Sustainability Officer: Developing and implementing sustainability policies and strategies at the organizational level. 
  • Sustainability Assistant: Supporting sustainability efforts through research and administrative tasks within businesses and governments.
