The RBC Indigenous Mentorship program provides Indigenous students with the opportunity to learn more about their culture, gain leadership skills, and connect with their community.
Peer-to-peer support
This program connects Indigenous students who are new to campus with current Indigenous students who are interested in sharing their knowledge and providing support. New students will experience a greater sense of community as they start their educational journey, and mentors will have the chance to improve their leadership skills.
I started learning my own language. I started learning who I am as White Eagle Feather Woman, which is my traditional name. And from there, I flourished. I became this leader I never thought I would be … The RBC Indigenous Mentorship program changed my life.
— Crystal Thompson Kootenay, Social Work graduate and program participant
Become a mentor
As a mentor, you can help new students find their way around campus, connect with their culture, and learn about the support services available to them. You’ll play an incredibly important role by helping new students feel supported and encouraged as they accomplish both their academic and personal goals.
Through this program, you can also gain invaluable leadership experience that you can include in your resume or discuss in job interviews.
To become an RBC Indigenous Mentor, please contact indigenous@norquest.ca or drop by Miyo-pimâtisiwin Centre during operational hours to speak with a staff member.
